Shauntee Burns is currently The Outreach Specialist for The HomeworkNYC Apps. Ms. Burns has worked for NYPL since 1996. As a Young Adult Librarian, she had a great interest in children and their education. She implemented programs that NYPL has adopted as programming for young adults. The most successful was Teen Tech a 90-minute laptop program that allows teenagers to use the laptops to do homework, research, and fun stuff too. Shauntee Burns was involved in a program called, Global Kids Project, where kids came to the library for 10 weeks to participate in a serious video game design series on social injustices. Outreaching to schools and other community agencies is something that is also very important to Ms. Burns. She constantly goes to junior high and high schools to talk about library resources, give out library cards, and train teachers and administrators on Web 2.0 tools. As of September of 2008, Shauntee Burns worked with the Uth Turn organization, to reach out to troubled youths in the community. Ms. Burns is on the review team for Stuff for the Teenage 2011 and a member of CIPA Filtering Group. She was also a member of the Young Adult Emerging Technologies Group. |
