Building and Running
a Collaborative Internet Filter
Is Akin to a Kansas Barn Raising
It takes a village to raise a barn, and in this
author's experience, a similar collaborative approach
yielded an Internet filtering solution that addressed
CIPA requirements sufficiently to be adopted by the
Kansas State Library. The service's co-developer relates
the cooperative efforts involved in building the dynamic,
open source filter and designing a blocking process
based on committee evaluation of patron requests.
