Karen Huffman, Manager, Technology Solutions, Information Systems & Technology, National Geographic Society and Special Libraries Association

Karen works for National Geographic Society as manager of the Applications and Collaboration team in the Information Systems & Technology division. She supports the enterprise's business needs with cloud-based solutions such as Google Apps, oversees the management of a handful additional applications and servers for user groups, and also develops customized solutions for targeted groups within the organization. 

She has been a member of Special Libraries Association (SLA) since 1999, serving in various roles including chair of the KM division (2009-2010) and developing resources for SLA-sponsored initiatives like 23 Things (2008) several years ago and Future Ready Toolkit (2011) this year. Karen has developed/co-facilitated a number of continuing education courses for SLA as well as other venues focused around skill building in various technologies and knowledge management strategies. 

Karen’s specialties include facilitating communication and engagement strategies through knowledge management techniques and collaborative models, streamlining and managing workflows to improve business processes, and training and development.
