Today, Inc. Launches Directory of the Independent Information
Industry
Information Services
Market Place: The World Directory
of Independent Information Professionals
to be published in 2005
April 29, 2004, Medford, New
Jersey— Information
Today, Inc. (ITI) announces
the launch
of Information Services Market
Place (ISMP): The World Directory
of Independent Information
Professionals, designed to
serve as the comprehensive
directory of firms involved
in this fast-growing segment
of the information industry.
“The independent information
profession is a thriving and
dynamic force in our business,” said
Tom Hogan, Sr., president of
ITI. “These people and
organizations are on the cutting
edge of many fields, delivering
vital information to decision
makers every day. Information
Today, Inc. is pleased to offer
this new resource to the marketplace.”
As a comprehensive international
directory, ISMP promises to
become an essential reference
in the new Information Economy.
Scheduled for release in Spring
2005, it will be published
in both print and electronic
formats. The Web version will
be available as an annual subscription
or on a pay-as-you-use basis.
Suzanne Sabroski, independent
information professional and
author, has been named editor
of ISMP. A long-time member
of the industry, she brings
numerous contacts and a vision
to the project. “Two
exciting market forces have
been at work the past couple
of decades: the explosion of
information and the rise of
the independent worker,” according
to Sabroski. “We aim
to find these professionals
on a global scale and create
a useful product for networking
and for use by potential clients.”
Companies worldwide increasingly
are using the services of independent
information professionals to
perform online and primary
research, gather competitive
intelligence, and create databases,
Web sites, and intranets. Reflecting
the sector’s growth,
the U.S. Census Bureau recently
developed a range of industry
classification codes for the
profession in the North American
Industrial Classification System
(NAICS). In addition, organizations
such as the Association of
Independent Information Professionals
(AIIP) have seen an increase
in membership numbers in recent
years. ISMP was developed in
response to growing demands
for an international directory
of information workers.
Independent information professionals,
consultants, and companies
involved in the industry will
be entitled to a free listing
that features an overview of
their business and complete
contact details. A variety
of logo and advertising placement
options will be available as
well. Online submission of
data and a listing recruitment
campaign will be launched in
June 2004. Vendors servicing
the independent information
industry will also be given
opportunities to participate.
