Internet Librarians Unite at Pasadena Conference

November 26, 2001, Medford, NJ — Nearly 2,000 librarians and information professionals gathered earlier this month in Pasadena, California, for the Internet Librarian 2001 conference and exhibition.

Sponsored and organized by Information Today, Inc. (ITI), Internet Librarian again brought together professionals from all over the country and the world to learn about and discuss the future of technology in libraries. The total attendance of 1,899 was a slight drop over previous years. However, considering travel worries and a falling economy, the library community responded amazingly well. Internet Librarian remains the largest Internet conference designed specifically for librarians.

Held November 6 – 8, the fifth annual conference featured more than 100 dynamic speakers in four simultaneous tracks, pre- and post-conference workshops, and a number of keynote sessions. Of special interest was the Tuesday evening session: "The Tasini Decision: The End of Full Text as We Know It?" The high-powered panel included Jonathan Tasini himself, as well as representatives from all sectors of the industry.

Audiocassette tapes of the Tasini session, as well as general conference sessions and keynote addresses, are available for sale. For more information, including a brochure, please contact Audio Transcripts, Ltd. at (703) 370-TAPE or send an e-mail to atltapes@aol.com.

The exhibit hall at Internet Librarian showcased more than 70 booths, offering visitors a choice of products covering all aspects of Internet technologies, including content providers, online services, software, document and Web delivery systems, search engines, and more. Companies represented included LexisNexis (the corporate sponsor of the conference), Factiva, Dialog, Gale Group, and many others. A full list of exhibitors is available at https://www.infotoday.com/il2001/exhibitors.htm.

Internet Librarian 2002 will be held November 4 – 6, 2002, at the Palm Springs Convention Center, Palm Springs, California. For more information, please contact ITI at 800-300-9868 (outside the U.S. call 609-654-6266), e-mail custserv@infotoday.com, or visit us on the Web at www.infotoday.com
