MicroPatent Streamlines Searching, Extends IP Alerts
MicroPatent announced a series of PatSearch FullText and patent alert
enhancements that can extend users' competitive intelligence monitoring and
improve their work-flow efficiencies.
The company added 50 patent alerts to each PatSearch FullText annual subscription
and redesigned its Search History interface. These improvements are complimentary
and automatically included in all PatSearch FullText accounts.
MicroPatent alerts monitor patent activity by company, technology, or industry,
according to the user's specifications. The new alert service facilitates the
creation, editing, and management of alert strategies. It features a summarized
table from which users can edit, clone, suspend, and delete. Other new features
include the ability to incorporate a custom cover sheet for each alert and
designate an unlimited number of recipients.

ProQuest Offers JHUP Journals ProQuest Information and Learning announced that it now offers scholarly
journals published by Johns Hopkins University Press (JHUP). The distribution
agreement brings the full text of 47 academic journals to the company's ProQuest
online databases, including ProQuest Research Library, Literature Online, Periodicals
Contents Index Full Text, Ethnic NewsWatch, GenderWatch, and International
Index to Black Periodicals, and to microform through Serials in Microform.
ProQuest will distribute the JHUP journal content to educational institutions,
libraries, and other markets around the world.
Included are titles such as American Imago, American Quarterly, Callaloo, Eighteenth
Century Studies, Human Rights Quarterly, Journal of the History
of Philosophy, Literature and Medicine, Modern Fiction Studies, Perspectives
in Biology & Medicine, Shakespeare Quarterly, Studies in
English Literature1500-1900, Technology and Culture, and World
Politics.

Ingenta Enters Reference-Linking Initiative with JSTOR Ingenta, Inc. announced the launch of a new reference-linking initiative
with JSTOR, the online scholarly journal archive. The partnership allows licensed
JSTOR users who access full-text articles on Ingenta to link seamlessly from
references in Ingenta to the corresponding full text held in JSTOR's various
collections.
Lisa Wilson-Wirth, Ingenta's vice president of marketing and user services,
said: "Ingenta is committed to maximizing the number of reference resolution
partners it offers via our dedicated linking team. The many professional and
academic publishers who have opted to use reference linking with Ingenta now
offer their customers an unprecedented 3.6 million active reference links to
choose from. This in turn enables the librarian to offer their patrons the
most comprehensive and seamless research experience online."
The JSTOR archive currently includes the entire back runs of 322 journals
and serves more than 1,600 participating libraries at colleges, universities,

Bureau van Dijk Adds Datamonitor Profiles Bureau van Dijk (BvD) announced that it is adding market research information
from Datamonitor to its range of company information products. The Datamonitor
Industry Profiles are now included in the latest versions of FAME, which
covers the U.K. and Ireland, and OSIRIS, which covers publicly listed companies
worldwide.
More than 2,000 Industry Profiles are being incorporated, including global
and regional reports as well as more than 1,500 country-level profiles. The
Industry Profiles, which are compiled from both primary and secondary research,
feature graphs and tables. BvD products will offer them on an unlimited-access
basis as well as through a pay-per-view option using BvD credits.
Datamonitor profiles are dynamically linked by industry to relevant company
reports in BvD databases. Additional profiles relating to a company, its brands,
or its subsidiaries are also highlighted and linked. Users have the option
to go to the financial reports of any other company whose name or brand names
are also included in the profile.

CAS Introduces Science IP Search Service Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) announced the launch of Science IP,
a new offering that provides personalized search services to the patenting
community. According to the announcement, Science IP allows information professionals,
attorneys, and others in the patenting and R&D communities to meet their
scientific information retrieval needs.
Science IP reports will support decisions such as prior art/patentability
for the prosecution of new patents, freedom to practice/operate for new and
existing technologies, and patent validity for infringement litigation. In
addition to employing patent-industry and scientific searching experts as researchers,
Science IP will also draw upon a team of CAS scientists with in-depth knowledge
of specialized areas.
Science IP can assist organizations with a variety of different searching
needs in the field of scientific intellectual property protection. Services
include literature searches for prior art and projects that support attorneys
who are writing patentability, freedom-to-practice/operate, and validity opinions.

Wiley InterScience Launches New Database Wiley InterScience, the online content service of publisher John Wiley & Sons,
Inc., announced the launch of the Wiley Database of Polymer Properties.
Based on the Polymer Handbook, 4th edition, the new database is a source
of polymer physical property data, with experimentally determined and selected
data for more than 2,500 polymers.
The new database offers search features that allow scientists to do the following:
Search data by polymer name as well as by property values and
full text
Create custom tables for a specific polymer. This feature queries
across the entire database to gather the physical constants from various
tables into one location. Tables may be viewed, printed, and downloaded into
other
programs, or saved for future use.
Using CrossRef, access abstracts or full-text HTML for the
primary literature in future updates

Factiva Unveils New Taxonomy Factiva has announced the availability of a pharmaceutical and healthcare
taxonomy with more than 800 industry-focused terms. This new tool is designed
to help companies in those sectors organize and interpret information from
both internal and external sources that are essential for making better business
decisions.
According to the announcement, the taxonomy and support services help integrate
large amounts of complex data, enabling pharmaceutical professionals and competitive
intelligence departments to find information on key topics such as business
issues and trends, healthcare organization, and competitor news.
The new taxonomy is structured as a series of extensions to the existing
Factiva Intelligent Indexing taxonomy, as used within Factiva's business information
services. Factiva's industry, region, subject, and company codes are already
available under license to help organizations find relevant internal and external
information.
The Factiva pharmaceutical and healthcare taxonomy can be applied using the
Factiva Fusion content intelligence service. Or it can be integrated into a
range of other categorization and search software packages. Factiva's taxonomy
specialists are available to further tailor the taxonomy and merge it with
a company's specific information needs and internal structures.

EBSCO Announces Database Additions,
Functionality Enhancement to EBSCOhost EBSCO Publishing announced the addition of H.W. Wilson's Library Literature & Information
Science database and reference linkingfunctionality to its EBSCOhost service.
The company also announced it has reached an agreement with the American
Theological Library Association (ATLA) that will enhance EBSCO's religious
studies database offering.
Library Literature & Information Science Created by librarians for librarians, the bibliographic Library Literature & Information
Science database indexes articles and book reviews of key library and information
science periodicals. It contains more than 242,000 records aggregated from
more than 300 books, 380 journals, chapters in collected works, library school
theses, and pamphlets. The database includes English and non-English records
dating to 1980.
Reference Linking
Reference linking allows users to locate additional information related to
an article of interest. They can link directly from a particular article to
other articles cited in the bibliography of the original. It also allows users
to link directly from a particular article to other articles in the database
that cite the original.
ATLA Agreement
EBSCO will now provide online access to The Catholic Periodical and Literature
Index and Old Testament Abstracts via EBSCOhost. The Catholic Periodical
and Literature Index includes indexed citations to articles published in Roman
Catholic periodicals, papal documents, church promulgations, and books about
the Catholic faith that are authored by Catholics and/or produced by Catholic
publishers. Old Testament Abstracts features indexing and abstracts for journal
articles, monographs, and multi-author works related to Old Testament studies.

Thomson ISI ResearchSoft Releases EndNote Version 7 Thomson ISI ResearchSoft announced the release of a major upgrade to its
EndNote bibliographic management software. EndNote 7 delivers new types
of bibliographies, flexible image handling, and connectivity to explore and
mobilize reference collections.
With EndNote's new Subject Bibliography, users can save steps when creating
a bibliography with topic headings. For example, they can select the field "Author" to
view a bibliography organized by author headings.
EndNote also allows users to insert a figure or table anywhere in a Microsoft
Word document. They can now search their EndNote libraries for images to place
within the text or create figure and table lists at the end of the document,
depending on their presentation or publisher requirements.
Users are now able to create bibliographies with StarOffice, OpenOffice,
AppleWorks, FrameMaker, and more. EndNote 7 scans RTF documents containing
temporary EndNote citations and instantly creates a bibliography.
Other features allow users to export files in XML format and move EndNote
references to data-visualization tools.

Germany Launches Portal to Scientific Information vascoda, a partnership of 37 German libraries, research centers, and academic
information providers, has announced the release of www.vascoda.de,
an interdisciplinary Web portal. The service will make scientific literature
and information accessible to the public.
Designed as a central access gateway, vascoda delivers a multidisciplinary
mix of scientific information products and services in one user interface.
The majority of the information offered via vascoda is free of charge. However,
fee-based information such as publishers' offers and commercial databases is
provided through a pay-per-view model. Existing subscriptions to electronic
journals can be continued with the publisher or information provider.

Inmagic Integrates XML Support into DB/TextWorks Inmagic, Inc. has announced the addition of XML support within its DB/TextWorks
product line.
Inmagic's XML-based products allow customers to edit such documents as online

West Releases My Account
West has announced the release of My Account, a free online service
that presents broad, real-time information about a customer's business relationship
with West in a secure setting on west.thomson.com. The service enables customers
to view their account balances and invoices, change addresses and account information,
make payments, generate Westlaw invoices and reports, view order status and
returns, and manage their Westlaw passwords.
My Account is being made available this summer to customers in mid-size and
large law firms, corporations, state and local government agencies, and
law schools.
