FileMaker, Inc. has announced the release of its new FileMaker Pro
6 database software, which features easy-to-use templates and tools, integrated
XML import and export, and what the company claims is a virtually limitless
ability to gather, manage, and share information. FileMaker Pro 6 now allows
users to import large numbers of images from a folder into a database and,
on Mac OS X only, capture digital images and image-data directly from cameras.
The widespread support of XML standards means that FileMaker can integrate
and exchange data with many applications without complex, costly conversion
between proprietary formats.
FileMaker Pro 6 customers can, for example, retrieve data from XML-enabled
Web applications, import accounting data from QuickBooks, or query corporate
databases without using open database connectivity drivers. With XML export,
users can share information with users of other applications by exporting
formatted FileMaker data into an e-mail or Microsoft Excel or into document-authoring
applications.
FileMaker also announced the release of its enhanced FileMaker XML Central
(http://www.filemaker.com/xml),
which the company says will enable developers and power-users to create
solutions that reap the benefits of data exchange and application integration.
Developers can download and contribute XSLT style sheets in the new FileMaker
XSLT Library.
