A Welcome Space for All
by Brandi Scardilli
The 11th Global Accessibility Awareness Day is May 19, 2022. According to its website (accessibility.day), the day’s purpose “is to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion, and the more than One Billion people with disabilities/impairments.” Jessica Hilburn has been covering the topic of digital access for Information Today and NewsBreaks for several years; in this issue, she turns to helping people with disabilities have better access to library services, both digital and physical. Starting on page 17, Hilburn shares research and tips for how to make your library’s spaces more welcoming to everyone.
In this month’s second feature, on page 22, Anthony Aycock offers a primer on how librarians can learn about invented—or constructed, to use the appropriate lingo—languages. Find out more about the mother tongues of Arwen and Legolas, Worf, Neytiri, and Daenerys and Tyrion. tIv! (“Enjoy!” in Klingon)
