EDITOR'S NOTE
A Word to the Wise
by Brandi Scardilli
According to Mental Floss, owls aren’t particularly intelligent birds. Their association with being wise probably stems from the Greek goddess of wisdom, Athena, who was often depicted holding one (mentalfloss.com/article/69941/are-owls-actually-wise). We like to get our facts straight here at Information Today (see page 30 for some fact-checking sites), but can you blame us for wanting to continue the owls-are-wise tradition? They are just such cool animals. Even OCLC Wise, the subject of our lead story this issue, has an owl emblem in its logo: Our other two features aim to share some wisdom as well: The LGBT Center of Raleigh shows how a small library can serve the community in a big way (page 16), and ALA and Google are working on a project to bring computational thinking skills to students (page 18).
