SIRSI Corp. has announced that its systems have been deployed at six
institutions. SIRSI has also announced an alliance with Book Data, Ltd.
to supply content for U.K. iBistro sites.
WYLD
The Wyoming Libraries' Database (WYLD), a statewide consortium consisting
of more than 50 libraries, has selected SIRSI'sUnicornCorsortia Library
Management System and Hyperion Digital Media Archive to provide WYLD member
libraries with its integrated library system of the future.
Established in 1979, WYLD is managed and administered by the Wyoming
State Library. WYLD enables member libraries and Wyoming residents to share
resources through online access to statewide holdings of more than 1 million
titles, periodical indexes, and electronic databases.
Trent University
Trent University, in Peterborough, Ontario, has selected SIRSI's Link
system for its Thomas J. Bata Library. The Bata Library serves the campus
community with more than 500,000 printed volumes; 260,000 microforms; 200,000
government documents; 100,000 maps and air photos; 4,000 current serial
subscriptions (print and electronic); 2,500 cubic feet of textual archival
files; and 15,000 archival photos, maps, and microforms.
Fairfax County Public Library
Fairfax County (Virginia) Public Library (FCPL) has selected SIRSI's
Unicorn system. It will be installed on a Sun platform running Oracle.
The FCPL has branches serving more than 1 million residents as well as
a collection of more than 2 million books, magazines, recorded books, and
compact discs.
Drake University
Drake University, in Des Moines, Iowa, has selected SIRSI's Link system
to provide service in its main and law libraries. Drake's Cowles Library
has a collection of approximately 600,000 items, online reference services
and access to various electronic databases, information literacy instruction,
and a fully equipped media classroom. Drake's Dwight D. Opperman Law Library
provides online access to Internet legal resources, Iowa legal resources,
and research guides. Dedicated in 1993, the library is named in honor of
Dwight D. Opperman, chairman emeritus of West Publishing.
Montana Library Network
The Montana Library Network (MLN), a statewide consortium serving Montana's
744 libraries, has selected UnicornConsortia to provide an initial 17 libraries
with online access to shared resources and services. Established in 1999,
Montana Library Network is a project of the Montana State Library and the
inspiration of the statewide multitype Montana State Library Networking
Task Force. Working as a partner with Montana libraries, MLN ensures the
delivery of quality networked library materials and services to Montana
citizens through standards-based library automation systems.
Alliance with Book Data
The alliance between SIRSI and Book Data, Ltd., a supplier of bibliographic
information about English-language books and published media to libraries
and booksellers in the U.K. and worldwide, will integrate enhanced bibliographic
information into SIRSI's iBistro Electronic Library at SIRSI sites in the
U.K. Book Data will initially provide iBistro with 800,000 book summaries,
400,000 tables of contents, and 265,000 book jacket images, to be updated
on a regular basis.
The alliance enables iBistro users at U.K. libraries to access a full
range of online information about books in the library's catalog without
having to retrieve the book from the stacks or sort through multiple print
resources. Through iBistro, U.K. library users can view in the online bibliographic
record not only a book's title, author, and call number, but also its jacket
cover, table of contents, and a summary. Users can also personalizeiBistro
to create a "MyBistro" resource, through which they receive information
about new titles of interest just to them.
