Wolters Kluwer North America has announced that it has acquired Uniform
Information Services (UIS) of Acton, Massachusetts, a leading provider
of electronic and print forms and regulatory databases for the property
and casualty insurance industry. UIS will become part of CCH INCORPORATED
(http://cch.com) of Riverwoods, Illinois, a provider of tax, securities,
and business law information and software and a Wolters Kluwer North America
company. Terms of the sale were not released.
UIS offers more than 20,000 standard and custom forms sold in print
and electronic formats. In addition, it includes ComplianceWare, a set
of subscription databases that addresses regulatory compliance for the
consumer finance and insurance industries.
UIS will become part of CCH's Business and Finance Group (http://business.cch.com),
which also manages NILS Publishing, a provider of U.S. insurance law and
regulatory information. Together, NILS and UIS will market a full suite
of compliance products for the insurance market, including research databases,
forms, and work-flow tools. The consumer finance ComplianceWare database
products will be integrated into the CCH banking product line. According
to the announcement, this acquisition further strengthens CCH's position
as the foremost provider of comprehensive research information services,
compliance-focused desktop solutions, and online tools that guide and assist
legal and business professionals in understanding, applying, and complying
with U.S. insurance and banking laws and regulations.
Uniform Information Services had 2001 fiscal year revenues of approximately
$11.6 million and employs approximately 61 people. It was founded in 1917
as a forms printing company, and evolved over 80 years into a specialized
