In November 2002, the resignation of Patrick
Tierney as head of Thomson Financial sparked a shift in management at Thomson
Corp. (See the NewsBreak at https://www.infotoday.com/newsbreaks/nb021125-1.htm.)
Richard J. Harrington, Thomson's president and CEO, took the opportunity to shift
the top executives in three of the four major groups at the giant corporation.
Harrington has long espoused a strategy of executive cross-training in the vast
Thomson empire. The company has some $7.2 billion in annual sales, 44,000 employees
worldwide, and an estimated 20 million customers.

Since
his appointment as CEO in October 1997, Harrington has led the
transformation of Thomson from a diverse holding company into a
focused provider of integrated information solutions. Harrington
has
held a number of key leadership positions at Thomson, including president
and CEO of Thomson Newspapers; president and CEO of |

Thomson
Professional Publishing, a provider of business information for
legal, tax, and accounting professionals; president and CEO of
Mitchell International, a supplier of information for the automotive
and insurance industries; and president of Thomson & Thomson,
an international trademark and copyright research firm. He joined
Thomson in 1982. |

Robert
C. Cullen
President and CEO,
Thomson Scientific
& Healthcare
Cullen has been with Thomson for 18 years.
Prior to assuming his current position, he
served as president and CEO of the International
group within Thomson Learning, where he focused
on global education and lifelong learning
markets. Before that he spent 5 years in
Singapore, starting as a managing director
in Asia and then as president of Asia/Pacific,
a position that included responsibility for
Thomson Learning's business in Australia.
Prior to moving to Singapore, Cullen held
a number of senior sales and marketing positions
for Thomson both in the U.S. and internationally.

Brian H. Hall
Executive Vice President,
Thomson Corp.
President and CEO,
Thomson Legal & Regulatory
Hall oversees all of the corporation's
legal and regulatory businesses worldwide,
including those in North America, Europe,
the Asia-Pacific region, and Latin America.
He joined Thomson as president and CEO
of Thomson Legal Publishing in 1995.
From 1985 to 1995, Hall was president
of Shepard's, a legal publishing company
then owned by the McGraw-Hill Companies.
In 1971, Hall began his career with Lawyers
Cooperative Publishing in Rochester,
N.Y. Thomson later acquired the company,
which is now part of Thomson Legal & Regulatory.

H. Schlosser

Prior to heading Thomson Learning, Schlosser
was president and CEO of Thomson Scientific & Healthcare.
He joined Thomson in 1995 as president
and CEO of Thomson Financial Publishing.
Schlosser was previously president of
Elsevier Science, Inc., a division of
Reed Elsevier. His responsibilities there
included serving as president of the
European database organization for Elsevier
Science BV. His previous positions include
general manager of marketing/operations
at the Institute for Scientific Information
and director of sales/marketing at several
McGraw-Hill, Inc. divisions.

H. Shaffer

CEO, Thomson Financial
Shaffer was previously president and CEO
of Thomson Learning. He joined Thomson in
April 1998 as president and CEO of Thomson
Publishing International. In November 1998,
he became COO of Thomson Corp. He was appointed
to the Thomson board of directors in 1998.
Prior to Thomson, Shaffer was chairman of
the board and CEO of Jostens Learning Corp.
His management career began with Dun & Bradstreet's
Official Airline Guides, Inc. (OAG). As president
of OAG and vice chairman of Thomas Cook Travel,
Inc., he oversaw the acquisition of these
businesses by Maxwell Communications Corp.,
PLC in 1988. Shaffer then became chairman,
president, and CEO of Macmillan, Inc. and
chairman of OAG. In 1993, he left Maxwell
to become president of McGraw-Hill's Educational
and Professional Publishing Group. |
