'99 Chemical Information Conference — As usual, this meeting provided an informational eye on the industry

Discusses the annual International Chemical Information Conference which took place in October at Annecy, France. Indicates that it continued to maintain high quality in both programs and ambiance. Says that the speakers were for the most part excellent. Adds that Annecy is one of the most beautiful spots in Europe. Discusses an important talk, entitled "Sci-Tech Information at the Millennial Boundary," which was presented by Bob Massie, CEO and director of the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS). Reports that, according to a poll that was taken, the two most well-received talks were both on the subject of text mining, one given by David Evans of Claritech Corp.in Pittsburgh and the second paper was by Michael Hehenberger of IBM Global Business Intelligence Solutions in New York. Covers other presentations about high-end products, the fate of the CD-ROM, and intellectual property.
