Information Today, Inc. (ITI) has announced the publication of Risa
Sacks' Super Searchers Go to
the Source: The Interviewing and Hands-On Information Strategies of Top
Primary Researchers—Online, on the Phone, and in Person, the seventh
title in the Reva Basch-edited Super Searchers series. The focus of the
new book is on primary research, which involves tapping original sources
of information through the use of in-person interviews, direct observation,
public records, source documents, and the telephone.
"Super Searchers know how critical it is to use the right research tools
for each situation," Sacks said. "In fact, [the] Super Searchers in every
previous book in this series have mentioned that there are times when primary
research is the best way to go, and times when it is the only way to go."
Sacks has interviewed 12 leading researchers from a variety of backgrounds
for the book. In their own words, these experts explain how they combine
traditional primary research techniques with new Internet strategies to
conduct research more effectively than ever, according to the announcement.
In addition, hundreds of their favorite information sources are assembled
in a useful appendix, and readers are provided with hyperlinked access
to all recommended Web sites through The Super Searchers Web Page (http://www.supersearchers.com).
Sacks is the owner of Risa Sacks Information Services, an independent
research firm. In addition to her research work, she provides training
to companies from Apple to Xerox on a variety of topics and presents seminars
on primary research at national conferences. She is the author of numerous
articles on using the telephone to gather information.
