EDITOR'S NOTE
Share Your Knowledge
by Brandi Scardilli
This issue looks at ways info pros can share their knowledge, whether online or offline. Has your library joined TikTok yet? Justin Hoenke investigates a platform that more and more libraries are taking advantage of to illustrate their value (page 24). A note: TikTok is mired in controversy because it is owned by a Chinese company, and many are worried that it could be weaponized by the Chinese government for collecting and exploiting users’ data. So, as with any social media app, use it at your discretion.
Terry Ballard’s interest in photography has led him to remix some images from the Library of Congress’ Civil War collection. Read about his work on page 6, and check out a similar project he has undertaken with NASA photos that he shared in the NewsBreak, “How NASA Works With Libraries, Schools, and Private Citizens to Explore the Universe” (newsbreaks.infotoday.com/NewsBreaks/How-NASA-Works-With-Libraries-Schools-and-Private-Citizens-to-Explore-the-Universe-156876.asp).
Do you want a more spiritual, mindful way to process information? Reiki is not a topic that Information Today would typically cover, but I’m always excited when info pros think outside the box. Kelly LeBlanc begins a two-part series that “builds a comprehensive picture of conscious/subconscious and tacit/explicit knowledge production and diffusion” through her explanation of Reiki and binaural beats, modalities that have “the potential to challenge our concept of knowledge creation and knowledge transfer” (page 20).
