Haworth Information Press, an imprint of Haworth
Press, Inc., has announced the forthcoming publication of the new Journal
of Digital & Electronic Acquisitions, a peer-reviewed/professional/research/practice
journal edited by Thomas Leonhardt, an internationally known leader in
the fields of librarianship, information science, electronic publishing,
Internet librarianship, and Internet innovations. The charter issue will
be available this spring.
Leonhardt said: "Today, the Internet and its graphic
version, the World Wide Web, have enhanced many early databases and have
made, virtually free, millions of electronic resources. Our electronic
or digital era is new and growing. We know a lot about it, but there is
much more to learn and many experiences to share. It is probably safe to
say that there is more unknown about the Internet than there is known."
According to the announcement, the
Journal
of Digital & Electronic Acquisitions will provide a fresh forum
for the scholarly study and discussion of all kinds, phases, and aspects
of digital and electronic acquisitions. Breakaway topics include the following:
-
The economics of electronic resources from the perspectives
of the end-users and producers
-
How electronic resources best serve the needs of
highly specialized individuals and communities
-
Areas of inquiry or endeavor in which electronic
resources may not yet be effective or appropriate—but how they might be
enhanced for near-universal relevance
