Announcing a series of free workshops for Libtech 2000 exhibition visitors. Taking place within the Libtech 2000 exhibition halls, and covering a wide range of topical contemporary issues for internet librarians and information users, these workshops are open to all and add value to your visit to Libtech 2000.

There is no need to register, simply pick the sessions of interest to you and arrive at the lecture theatre within the Libtech 2000 exhibition halls at the appropriate time.

These high-demand workshops are open on a first-come-first-served basis, so be sure to get there early!

If you have colleagues who have not yet requested FREE entry tickets to Libtech 2000, please refer them to www.internet-librarian.com to register. Remember, by registering now they will receive their entry badges in advance and avoid queues when they attend Libtech 2000. Libtech 2000 badge holders are entitled to free access to London Book Fair.

She emphasizes adapting the service to suit an online environment, designing user-friendly pages and ensuring acceptance of the new service by our users. Adding value to information: New database content and search tools

Take a look at a new concept in information delivery. The new Resource Center databases include articles from core periodicals, proprietary reference content, original documents, photographs, and links to related Web sites—all in a single database. The session will also review new ways of exchanging information in the digital library, including InfoMarks—persistant URLs which enable local and remote users to exchange and update search results.

As the amount of content available thorough the Internet grows  exponentially, end users find they are being overwhelmed by the sheer amount of data. Hence new software architectures are  emerging which can both customise and filter sources to meet user  requirements. These are becoming core features of developments such as corporate portals, push systems and alerting from databases. This session looks at some developments and  applications of this new phenomena.

The pocket-sized Web
Martin White, Intranet Focus
This presentation discusses the technologies that will enable the Web to be accessed through hand-held devices, including mobile telephones. These technologies have the capability to revolutionise information access, not only to the contents of the Web, but also through remote access to corporate intranets. There is already one UK venture capital company dedicated to supporting wireless internet applications, and more are planned. The implications for content providers will be considered as they start to work out business models for this new information delivery channel.

Wireless Communication in Finnish Libraries
Janne Rouhianen, ATP Library Systems Ltd.
Libraries have started using the mobile phone network in Finland. Janne Rouhiainen describes the results of a study made among Finnish librarians and library customers. They were asked about their opinions and experiences of wireless communications, for example WAP and SMS messages between libraries and customers. Mr Rouhiainen demonstrates how the WAP and SMS services function in libraries and discusses future trends and possibilities for developing these kinds of library services.
