Tabitha Johnson, Lead Librarian Grades K-4, The School at Columbia University
| |
| Tabitha joined the faculty of The School as the kindergarten through fourth grade librarian in 2006. She began her career as a first grade teacher in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn. After teaching for a few years, Tabitha decided to recognize her dream of being a librarian by getting her Masters of Library and Information Science. During her year as a student, Tabitha was fortunate to work as an assistant librarian in the corporate library at Ogilvy and Mather advertising. In the last four years, Tabitha has brought many new programs to our library. She piloted The School's first picture book award program for Kindergarten through fourth grades called the Leo's Choice Award. She has developed a collection of graphic novels for the wide range of students at the school. Valuing the importance of storytelling, she has developed storytelling units for each grade that she works with. Tabitha has been exploring using the iPad as a tool in the library for using the online catalog and book clubs since the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year. |
