Shifting Worlds
It has been 10 years since the last major technological sea change when the Web rocked our world. Not just the information
world, but also those worlds at the very roots of our lives—the places and spaces where we work, learn, and play. All indications
point to very dramatic and dynamic changes in the coming year. Consider the many announcements by Google that emphasize
the new players in the information world. It is more important than ever for information professionals to keep close tabs on the
shifting worlds around us: the information landscape with its key and new players, new platforms and technologies, as well as new
applications and strategies. As with the theme, “Shifting Worlds,” the reality will provide us with opportunities to streamline our
operations, improve and enhance our customer relationships, develop new applications, and more. Keeping up with the new tools
and techniques is always a challenge but Internet Librarian 2005 definitely meets that challenge. It provides attendees with many
chances to meet and hear from leading-edge information professionals in all types of environments—leaders in the information
industry who are organizing and managing digital content in creative ways, setting the context for excellence in information
utilization in their organizations, building strong collaborative communities among their customers and colleagues, and using new
technologies in creative and exciting ways. Our 9th annual Internet Librarian conference is a mixture of leading-edge ideas, tools,
expert speakers, practical tips and exciting new events—all focused on information professionals and Internet-related technologies.
IL 2005 features four keynote sessions; 100 + dynamic speakers in four simultaneous tracks plus two days of Internet@Schools West, many in-depth learning events and workshops, a fun and informative evening session, cybertours, and a new demo feature.
