Steve Garwood comes to us today from the School of Communication, Information, and Library Studies (SCILS) at Rutgers University where he is an Lecturer/Assistant Professor in the Graduate Library and Information Science program and the Undergraduate Information Technology and Informatics program. Steve teaches Research and Reference Skills, basic Information Technology, and Web and Multimedia Design to both on-campus and online students.
Before working at SCILS, Steve worked at the INFOLINK Regional Library Cooperative where he was Program and Services Coordinator. In that position he coordinated continuing education programs for library staff, developed, marketed, and managed various services to libraries such as Interlibrary Loan Delivery, Book Evaluation, and Technology Incubator projects.
Prior to INFOLINK, Steve worked as Customer Education/Reference Librarian at the Camden County Library/New Jersey Statewide Supplemental Reference Center, and was Technology Center Training Coordinator at Burlington County Library. Steve began screencasting in late 2005 as a way of bringing computer based instruction and tutorials to students in his online and on-campus classes. Since then he has created hundreds of screencasts for his classes/students, and is currently working with libraries and library groups to foster appreciation and use of screencasts to handle topics ranging from bibliographic instruction to virtual tours and beyond.
In his spare time, Steve constantly redesigns his homepage at www.stevegarwood.com, lectures on issues of Plagiarism, Social Software, and Web Design to schools and library organizations, talks shop with his Librarian wife, and acts as a human petting machine for their two cats and new dog.
