Technology training for all
by Janet L. Balas

ONLINE TREASURES column notes that as the Monroeville Public Library of PA began offering public access to the Internet, the issue of training to use the card catalog became more complicated. Says that for the present time, the library is offering library-oriented training with some basic instruction for people who are new to computers. Looks at some Web-training sites that patrons can use either at home or in the library. Relates that ZDNet, Ziff-Davis, Inc.'s Web site, recently unveiled a new set of beginner's guides, and another source is the Freeskills Web site, which offers free online training on a variety of computer-related subjects. Includes a sidebar (p60) with a list of Web-learning sites. Concludes that there are no easy answers for librarians dealing with the issues surrounding technology training, but the technology itself can help provide the training. Includes two screen displays.
