EDITOR'S NOTES
Buying Into the Future
by
Dick Kaser
With times tight and budgets tightening, librarians will really have to live up to their iconic reputation as superheroes this year. But not to fear: Our annual Buyer’s Guide will point you to the best sources for library systems, information services, hardware, software, and supplies.
When librarians go shopping, it’s not just about buying stuff for the sake of buying stuff, of course. Not even in good times. It’s about building a better tomorrow for their institutions and their patrons.
As we were working on the issue, I was reminded of the buttons blogger Aaron Schmidt (www.walkingpaper.org) was handing out at gaming night during the Computers in Libraries conference this spring. With his permission, we’ve borrowed his slogan, “Creating the Future for Libraries” as the motto for this issue.
Besides the Buyer’s Guide listings, this issue includes tips for promoting the services of your library and an update on ILS vendors.
Catch our editors’ blog of the ALA Chicago meeting (www.infotodayblog.com).
Have a great summer.
