Mary Carmen Chimato, Head, Access & Delivery Services, North Carolina State University

As head of access & delivery services, Mary Carmen Chimato provides leadership for key public services that enable users to access the many resources of the Libraries. She manages circulation, course reserves, technology device lending, current periodicals, interlibrary loan and document delivery, stack maintenance, and media services. She also lead efforts to explore new service models and exploit emerging technologies to enhance services for students, faculty, and other researchers. Chimato has a strong background of leadership and management from her previous position as head of access services for the Health Sciences Center Library, State University of New York at Stony Brook. There she developed and implemented an electronic reserves system and contributed to the redesign of the library Web site, incorporating popular Internet tools such as podcasts, blogs, and wikis. Her public services background also includes experience as a reference librarian in Drexel University’s Florence A. Moore Library of Medicine and teaching experience in formal library instruction programs, including informatics instruction and support for evidence-based practice in nursing. Her writing on management has been published in College & Research Library News and can be found at her blog, Circ and Serve (circandserve.wordpress.com). She has also written for Journal of Hospital Librarianship and Journal of Consumer Health on the Internet.
