EDITOR'S NOTE
Vibe Check
by Brandi Scardilli
What you do during the month of October reveals a bit about you. Are you prepping your Halloween costume and/or planning a Halloween party? Are you making a grocery list of the limited-edition pumpkin spice items on offer? (My favorite is Pumpkin Spice Cheerios.) Are you making plans for watching the World Series? What’s your viewing strategy for the Draconid and Orionid meteor showers? Are you hunkering down in your reading nook wearing a cozy fall sweater? Maybe all of the above?
Here are two more things you might be doing in October: spotlighting ADHD Awareness Month and prepping TeenTober events at your library. Anthony Aycock compiles some of the best ADHD resources on the internet starting on page 17. Beginning on page 13, Patti Gibbons details YALSA’s TeenTober advocacy campaign to highlight library resources and programming that keep teens engaged and connected.
If you are going to have a Halloween party, might I suggest gathering some spooky sound effects to play from the resources David Haden shares on page 26? And don’t discount the possibility of an October surprise affecting the November election. Stay informed with Ballotpedia, the database Mick O’Leary reviews on page 24.
Happy reading,
