Factiva Introduces New Subscription Options Factiva announced two new subscription options for individuals or small businesses
that conduct occasional business research. These subscribers can now access
Factiva's content directly from Factiva.com or via links at The Wall Street
Journal's WSJ.com site.
The Individual Subscription option provides access to both the Search and
Track areas of Factiva.com. It offers search functionality to support accurate
and deep research as well as Track Folders that deliver filtered news about
competitors, customers, or key markets.
The annual fee for an Individual Subscription is $69. Track Folders are $9.95
per month. Articles cost $2.95 each.
WSJ.com customers can search Factiva from links within their Online Journal
subscription. There's no additional annual fee for this option, but users who
are not already Factiva.com subscribers need to register with a credit card
to view articles, which cost $2.95 each. Factiva Intelligent Indexing and Track
Folders are not available as part of this offering.

Dialog Announces Content Additions Dialog Corp. announced that it has added new content to its Intelliscope,
Dialog Company Profiles, Dialog, and DataStar services.
Intelliscope
Dialog has integrated 128 new providers of brokerage reports into Intelliscope.
The service covers more than 37,500 public and private companies, with more
than 1,500 new reports added each business day.
Dialog Company Profiles
Dialog Company Profiles now offer an improved search interface, more robust
navigation features, and an expanded roster of authoritative reference sources.
These customized profiles provide current analysis, data, and news on nearly
500,000 public and private companies worldwide.
Dialog, DataStar
Detailed data on more than 6,200 Japanese companies, published by business
information specialist Kompass, is now available exclusively through Dialog
(File 592) and Dialog DataStar (KPWO). The companies are primarily manufacturers
involved in import/export businesses in the Tokyo metropolitan area.

OUP Updates American National Biography Online Oxford University Press (OUP) announced that it has released the latest quarterly
update to the American National Biography Online. This resource features
new articles, photographs, and revisions.
The American National Biography Online offers portraits of 18,000 men and
women from every era whose lives and works have shaped the U.S. The summer
2003 update features 30 all-new profiles of leading figures.
The American National Biography Online, published by OUP under the auspices
of the American Council of Learned Societies, features thousands of illustrations,
more than 80,000 hyperlinked cross-references, and links to select Web sites.

Gale Implements New Features, Upgrades Gale announced the introduction of In the Loop, a biweekly e-mail
alert for librarians. The company also announced that it is adding new features
and content to its InfoTrac, Biography Resource Center, CPI.Q, Ward's Business
Directory, and database products.

In the Loop offers tailored information for librarians, including content

InfoTrac
Gale has added a direct journal search feature to its InfoTrac suite. Journal
Search offers a route to detailed information for thousands of titles. It gives
InfoTrac Web searchers immediate access to journal-detail descriptions, including
complete journal name, ISSN, publisher name, audience rating, format, index,
and full-text coverage dates.
Biography Resource Center
During the first 5 months of 2003, Gale added more than 40 published volumes
to Biography Resource Center. These volumes contain 80,000 updated biographies
as well as more than 300 brand-new entries that have not appeared in any Gale
print source.
CPI.Q
With the just-completed reload of the CPI.Q database, users will have access
to more than 1.3 million articles as well as extended backfile coverage for
135 periodicals, including 57 active titles with full-text backfile coverage.
Images are now available for 150 of the indexed periodicals.
Ward's Business Directory
Ward's Business Directory now provides details on 10,000 Mexican and 5,000
Canadian businesses, with an emphasis on privately held companies and hard-to-find
data on small and mid-sized firms.
Consumer Reports Gale will add Consumer Reports magazine to 13 of its online databases.
Full-text articles, images, and full-page Adobe PDFs will be included. New
full-text content will be added to the databases, with a 90-day embargo.

EBSCO Publishing Releases InfoSci-Online EBSCO Publishing announced the release of InfoSci-Online, a database
produced by Idea Group, Inc. InfoSci-Online provides a comprehensive, full-text
collection of literature from the field of information science, enhanced by
the searching and linking technology of EBSCOhost.
InfoSci-Online includes book chapters, journal articles, case studies, and
conference proceedings, all in Adobe PDF. This content covers research, trends,
technologies, and challenges in the fields of information science, technology,
and management published by Idea Group, Inc. imprints (Idea Group Publishing,
Information Science Publishing, IRM Press, and CyberTech Publishing).
Updated monthly, the database grows annually by approximately 1,500 new book
chapters, more than 250 journal articles and case studies, and more than 300
conference proceedings papers. Among the titles included are Journal of
Distance Education Technologies, Journal of End-User Computing, Information
Resources Management Journal, Annals of Cases on Information Technology,
and Journal of Database Management.

CSA Launches Thesaurus, Integrates Database Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA) announced the release of Biocomplexity
Thesaurus, a free Web-based resource for the biocomplexity and bioinformatics
communities. The company also announced the addition of theInternational
Bibliography of the Social Sciences (IBSS) to its Internet Database Service.
Biocomplexity Thesaurus
Biocomplexity Thesaurus is the result of a 2 1/2-year partnership between
CSA and the National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII). CSA supplies
NBII with biocomplexity-related bibliographic citations, editor-indexed Web
sites, and other information products.
IBSS
The IBSS database provides coverage of the core social science disciplines
of sociology, politics, economics, and anthropology. It contains more than
2 million records published since 1951.
According to the announcement, IBSS aims to deliver comprehensive coverage
of high-quality social science research from all over the world. It addresses
all disciplines of interest to social scientists and reflects the interdisciplinary
nature of modern social science research.

Morningstar.com Library Edition Adds New Service Morningstar, Inc. has added a Help & Education Center to Morningstar.com
Library Edition, a Web site for libraries and their patrons. The new area provides
a glossary of key terms, online courses, reference guides, and training seminars
to help patrons learn about investing and improve their financial literacy.

the fundamentals of stock and fund investing with online courses and quizzes
A new Glossary, which offers a database of 197 investment terms

Swets Blackwell Unveils Journal Collection
Swets Blackwell announced the launch of the ALPSP Learned Journals Collection (ALJC),
a database of 247 journals from 25 diverse publishers. ALJC enables small and
medium-sized publishers to package their journals with a single umbrella license,
pricing model, and delivery platform. The database is a collaboration between
the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers, Swets Blackwell,
and Extenza.
ALJC allows customers to access high-quality e-journals directly via SwetsWise
online content. Its 247 titles are available in both the full collection and
in three discipline-specific packages: Medicine & Life Science (85 titles),
Science & Technology (57 titles), and the Arts, Humanities & Social
Sciences (129 titles).
Pricing is based on a percentage of ALJC's current collective print value
and is guaranteed for 3 years. Both print-plus-electronic and electronic-only
options are available. Customers can migrate from one to the other during the
3-year license agreement period.

Nature Rolls Out 10-Year Archive
Nature Publishing Group has announced the launch of the Nature Archive:
January 1987December 1996, a resource that provides online access
to the 65,000 articles published in Nature during that 10-year period.
Users can freely search Nature's complete archives from a single interface
(http://www.nature.com) or browse by issue (http://www.nature.com/nature/archive).
Access to full-text articles from the Nature Archive 19871996 is available
to users via a Nature Archive site license, which can be added to an existing
Nature site license. Customers without a site license can purchase individual
articles.
Until August 2003, subscriptions to Nature included access to the
available online archive, which dates to June 1997. At no extra charge to personal
or site-license subscribers, this access has now been extended to January 1997.
The addition brings subscriptions in line with Nature Archive: January 1987December
1996.

NISO Releases Guide for Publishers
The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) announced that it
has teamed with The Sheridan Press to issue Metadata Demystified: A Guide
for Publishers. This work presents an overview of evolving metadata conventions
in publishing as well as related initiatives designed to standardize how metadata
is structured and disseminated online. Focusing on strategic rather than technical
considerations, Metadata Demystified offers insight into how book and
journal publishers can streamline metadata operations in their companies and
leverage it for added exposure in digital media, including the Web.
Authors Amy Brand, Frank Daly, and Barbara Meyers explain what metadata is
and isn't and talk about why metadata is important to both publishers and readers.
In addition, they discuss specific book and journal-oriented metadata practices,
such as ONIX, CrossRef, and the Open Archives Initiative.

Ovid Integrates Medical Content with Microsoft Office
Ovid Technologies announced a new medical information research solution that's
accessible through the Research and Reference Pane within Microsoft Office
2003 applications. Healthcare professionals who use Microsoft Office now have
direct access to more than 900 leading medical and health sciences journals
available through the Journals@Ovid database.
According to the announcement, the Ovid solution is designed for clinicians
and medical researchers who require fast, accurate, and comprehensive answers
to their questions. End users can now select terms directly from their Microsoft
Office documents and use the "look up" feature to instantly launch a Journals@Ovid
search session. Content is integrated within a user's desktop environment to
provide one-click access to critical medical information.
Clinicians can purchase the material through Ovid's PayPerView feature. Or,
if their institution is an Ovid subscriber, they can select an article and
view the entire full text.

Information Today, Inc. Publishes Net Effects
Information Today, Inc. announced the publication of Net Effects: How
Librarians Can Manage the Unintended Consequences of the Internet, edited
by Marylaine Block.
According to the announcement, the Internet is challenging librarians' ability
to select information sources. This threatens the survival of the book, necessitates
continuous retraining, presents new problems of access and preservation, puts
new demands on budgets, and involves information professionals in legal controversies.
In Net Effects, librarian, journalist, and Internet guru Block examines

ebrary Unveils Library Center
ebrary announced that it has launched Library Center, a Web site for
librarians and M.L.S. students. This resource provides research materials,
industry news, and information about librarianship and related fields.
Library Center currently features a growing database of more than 30 full-text
books that cover topics such as digital library development, general collection-development,
and the history of libraries and librarianship, as well as illustrated guides
from the Library of Congress. It also provides back issues of Advanced Technology
Libraries, a leading industry newsletter that offers a concise monthly review
of information technology that's relevant to libraries.

CAS Introduces SciFinder 2004
Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) announced the addition of new capabilities
for chemical reaction exploration and analysis in SciFinder 2004. These enhancements
are integrated with CAS's weekly updated reaction database, which now contains
7 million reactions.
SciFinder's new Analyzer Reactions tool lets scientists profile reactions
in terms of relevant categories, such as the catalystused, the solvent involved,
product yields, or the number of reaction steps. In addition, SciFinder 2004
provides structure searches of the entire CAS substance collection or allows
focus by substance classes, such as coordination compounds, mixtures, polymers,
etc.

SAGE Full-Text Collections to Add New Modules
SAGE Publications and Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA), the producers
of SAGE Full-Text Collections, have announced that they will add Education and Psychology modules
to the database in 2004.
SAGE Full-Text Collections is a research database of peer-reviewed academic
journals from SAGE and participating societies. Subscribers have full-text
electronic access to the most current issue of the journals and can link to
CSA abstracting databases. In addition, they can access the journals' backfiles,
many of which date back 20 years.
