The TEAC 12x10x32 CD-RW drive writes data or audio files at 12x (CD-R), rewrites at 10x (CD-RW), and can playback at 32x (CD-ROM) speeds. Three times as fast as the industry’s standard 4x drives, the 12x10x32 is capable of writing an entire 650-MB CD-R in approximately 6 minutes, storing data and/or audio, including large presentations or graphics such as photos and home videos, according to the company. The CD-RW drive can also be used to record mixed-music CDs off a PC using downloaded WAV and MP3 files.
The new drive delivers a digital extraction rate of 20x and provides a smooth, even flow of data supported by a 4-MB data buffer. According to the company, the drive’s 85-ms average access time is the industry’s fastest for CD-RWs, and provides high-speed database searches.
“The release of a product like our 12x-10x32 opens up new markets for TEAC that includes consumers looking for the fastest CD-RW performance,” said Les Luzar, division manager at TEAC America’s Data Storage Products Division. “The higher speeds make it easier and more enjoyable to create and store data in less time than ever before.”
The internal 12x10x32 CD-RW includes everything needed for installation via an IDE/ATAPI interface. The drive also comes with blank TEAC CD-R and CD-RW media, as well as an Adaptec software suite that includes Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4, Adaptec Direct CD, Adaptec CD Copier, and Adaptec Jewel Case Creator.
The 12x10x32 CD-RW is available as a complete kit for Windows 95/98/NT and Windows 2000 Professional for $299.
