EDITOR'S NOTE
Fond Farewell
by Barbara Brynko
Robert Massie, former president of Chemical Abstracts Service; Matthew Cockerill, general manager of BioMed Central; and I share something in common this issue. We’re all moving on.
Massie is officially retiring in March 2014, Cockerill will depart the OA publisher at the end of the year, and I am leaving Information Today after nearly 9 years as editor-in-chief.
But before I sign off, let me say that this issue is packed with infor mation from start to finish, from rare maps and treasures being stolen from special library collections in “Getting Away With History” to new ebook lending procedures for the library community in “Four Approaches to Lending E-Readers.” And then, we take a look at the growing interest in data scientists and how universities are devising short- or long-term courses, degrees, and even MOOCs to mold the next generation into analytics specialists in “Data Scientists: ‘You Sexy Thing.’”
Although I’m leaving the post I have thoroughly enjoyed for all my years here, Information Today will live on in all its glory. It has earned its place in the information industry as the go-to source for news, trends, and product enhancements, and that will definitely continue for many years to come.
It’s been a pleasure seeing the information industry weather the economic turmoil and bounce back stronger than ever. And this bodes well for more innovation in the years ahead. It’s also been a pleasure being at the helm of this publication and getting to know many of you personally through interviews and briefings. I wish you all continued success, health, and happiness.
Stay tuned. There is much more to come.
