David Vine said: “This CD-ROM contains 288 separate books, reports, and documents covering a broad spectrum of civil and criminal investigation topics. There are 22,935 pages covering everything from Anarchy & Explosives to Unlawful Conduct Involving the Internet. The single largest document is the entire U.S. Code Title 18, with its 2,292 pages. All of the files are in the Adobe Acrobat format, and the Acrobat Reader software is included on the CD-ROM.”
The company has also announced the Investigator’s Internet Resource Guide (II-RG) Fall 2000 Edition, which contains a new bookmark file of 1,317 public records links indexed by state and an assortment of free software—all on CD-ROM. The guide also includes bookmarks for dozens of state and regional private investigator associations’ Web sites, as well as the collection of 200 links corresponding to the paper pages contained in the product’s three-ring binder.
The IIRG still provides 20 selected sites in the following categories: Legal; Finance, Insurance, & Real Estate; Investigators’ Publications; Privacy; Federal Agencies; State Agencies; Databases; Internet Search; Investigators’ Associations; and Miscellaneous. The Fall 2000 Edition now includes Public Records On Internet (previously a separate publication). The 1,317 bookmarks on the CD-ROM are listed in this section and are indexed by state. Freeware packages and two document files also are provided.
According to the company, the software offers a range of useful functions including Adobe Acrobat Reader and Netscape Communicator, an evidence database, Internet tools for encryption, network analysis, and conferencing. Acrobat document files contain information on commercial public records providers and a mail list users’ guide.
