According to the announcement, ShopISI (http://www.shopisi.net)
offers the individual researcher a quick, easy, and efficient way to learn
about and order ISI products online using a secured credit card system
or an invoice billing option. Visitors to ShopISI can search for products
by field of research (such as biology or engineering), by product type
(such as alerting services or specialty products), or by product name (such
as Current Contents or Discovery Agent). The site will feature special
discounts on selected ISI products.
“Providing online ordering demonstrates our commitment to meeting the dynamic needs of our customers worldwide,” said Merle Jaffe, vice president of sales and marketing at ISI. “ShopISI offers our customers a fast, efficient, and convenient way to order high-quality research information products via the Web.”
ISI compiles and organizes pertinent research information from over 16,000 international journals, books, and proceedings in the sciences, social sciences, and arts and humanities. The company indexes complete bibliographic data, including cited references and author abstracts. Navigation within individual products provides Web links to related materials and enriches data retrieval.
The ISI products and services are available in a variety of media and
include current awareness data, retrospective citation indexes, customized
alerting services, chemical information products, and specially focused
databases.
Oberlin Group Colleges
The agreement with the Oberlin Group Library Consortium covers Internet
access for 12 colleges to the Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences
Citation Index, and the Arts & Humanities Citation Index for varied
years of coverage.
Colleges participating in the 3-year agreement include Carleton College, Claremont Colleges Libraries, Colgate University, Depauw University, Lafayette College, Middlebury College, Smith College, Swarthmore College, Vassar College, Wesleyan University, Reed College, and Willamette University. Other participating consortium members have the option to enter the agreement at any time.
The Web of Science is ISI’s proprietary Web interface that provides access to more than 8,000 high-impact journals. It combines high-quality bibliographic material, author abstracts, citation indexing, and the power of the Web, ISI says. This combination gives faculty, staff, and students the ability to regularly review and search a core set of scholarly publications to retrieve a unique set of references based on citation relationships between articles, across all scholarly disciplines and all years available.
“We are very excited to be able to provide access to the Web of Science to the faculty and students at our member colleges,” said Robert Adams, university librarian at Wesleyan University. “We feel that providing access to this outstanding database for our undergraduate students is an instrumental step in preparing the students for further graduate studies.”
