IPCA
Covering more than 120 of the most influential and widely read mainstream magazines (including Yahoo! Internet Life, eBay, and PC Magazine), industry publications (including Internet Week, Internet World, and Info World), and academic journals (such as the Journal of Internet Cataloging and Internet Research) that discuss the Internet and personal computers, Internet & Personal Computing Abstracts now has even more Internet coverage. IPCA has added over 1,000 abstracts on such Internet topics as Web commerce, online trading, Web auctions, Web hosting, information retrieval, data mining, data warehousing, Web publishing, Internet business trends, and Web portals.

Each year, IPCA publishes over 10,000 abstracts of articles on Web issues, networks, databases, telephony, corporate news, electronic commerce, information security, and more. Thousands of hardware, software, and Web-related reviews are succinctly summarized for quick access to information on the latest products. In addition, a subscription to IPCA includes the annual Cumulative Index, which is published separately at the end of each volume year. Internet & Personal Computing Abstracts is also available online through DIALOG, OCLC, and Cambridge Scientific Abstracts services.

New KM Book
Knowledge Management for the Information Professional is edited by T. Kanti Srikantaiah and Michael E. D. Koenig. Written from the perspective of the information community, this latest book from the American Society for Information Science (ASIS) examines the business community’s recent enthusiasm for knowledge management (KM), tracing the complex and rapid evolution of the field and delineating its components.

With contributions from more than 30 leading KM practitioners, academicians, and information professionals, editors Srikantaiah and Koenig bridge the gap between two distinct perspectives, equipping information professionals with the tools to make broader and more effective contributions in developing KM systems and creating a knowledge management culture within their organizations. Particular emphasis is placed on the social and cultural components of KM implementation.

The book comprises five major sections: “Overview of Knowledge Management,” “Background & Issues,” “Creating the Culture of Learning & Knowledge Sharing in the Organization,” “Knowledge Management Tools,” and “Knowledge Management Applications.” The book is fully indexed, and its appendixes include a comprehensive bibliography of knowledge management, a course syllabus, and a thematic model for information-driven management.

According to ITI, Knowledge Management for the Information Professional is an essential volume for scholars and students in library and information science; for professors teaching a broad range of business courses; for librarians, researchers, and information professionals charged with creating, organizing, and managing corporate knowledge assets; and for any professional interested in practical KM business applications.

Taverekere (Kanti) Srikantaiah is the director of the Center for Knowledge Management at Dominican University, where he teaches graduate courses in library and information science and cross-discipline courses within the School of Business. Previously, he worked at the World Bank, where he headed varied and important assignments in the area of information management at the World Bank headquarters in Washington, DC, and at field offices in Africa and Asia. He is the author of two books, one on systems analysis and one on quantitative research methods.

Koenig, dean of Long Island University, was formerly professor and dean of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at Dominican University. He has 30 years of experience in information systems design and management, including positions as vice president of information management for Tradenet, Inc., and as head of information services for Pfizer Research. Koenig, a former president of the International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics, has used his research to focus on the effect of information services on organizational productivity.

Knowledge Management for the Information Professional (598 pages, $44.50, ISBN: 1-57387-079-X) is published by Information Today, Inc., the publisher of KMWorld magazine and sponsor of the annual KMWorld Conference and Expo.
