Art, opera, and the Bard Arts and literature publishing is making inroads on the Web

ONLINE INSIGHTS column highlights three arts and literature Web sites. Says that The Grove Dictionary of Art and The Grove Dictionary of Opera, both from Macmillan, Ltd., incorporate color images, sound clips, search engines, and search references linked to text. Notes that The Grove Dictionary of Opera offers the full text of the four-volume set, with 11,000 articles and 2,000 cross references. Adds that The Grove Dictionary of Art covers all forms of visual arts, including painting, sculpture, architecture, photography, and graphic arts, from prehistory to the 1990s. Reports that Ardenonline, from Thomas Nelson and Sons, provides the complete contents of The Arden Shakespeare, covering ten plays. Says that content includes introductions, text, commentary notes, illustrations, reviews, topic-based indexes, and a chronological chart of performances.
