Reliable cancer resources on the Internet — Clinicians and patients can readily find valuable information on the Net

MEDICAL LINE column explores two cancer resources on the Web. Says CancerNet has key resources for clinician use and patient education that is based on the National Cancer Institute's Physician's Data Query (PDQ). Notes PDQ content is regularly reviewed by oncology experts, and is best known for summary information on prevention and treatment. Adds that it also offers the most comprehensive resource for clinical trials, referencing more than 1,500 of them. Calls OncoLink "the grande dame of oncology resources on the Net," because its inception dates back to the inception of the Web in 1994. Says OncoLink blends resources from PDQ and other online sources, offers article summaries written by staff physicians for six medical journals, and provides CancerLit summaries, which are monthly citations and abstracts of cancer-specific articles.
