Lycos acquires WiseWire

Announces that Lycos Inc. has acquired WiseWire Corporation, enabling Lycos to establish itself as the only online service offering an automated Web directory that is integrated with search results. Says the WiseWire proprietary product builds the directory from a combination of user input and intelligent agent technology, resulting in higher relevance at lower cost. Explains the technology prioritizes and organizes content into predefined hierarchical directories based on thousands of categories, accepts button-driven preference ratings from the user, continually moves sites up or down in priority based on those preferences, and populates heavily used topics with dynamic, real-time content.
