ebrary has announced the commercial availability of ebrarian, a solution
for channel partners that will enable online organizations to increase
profitability and Web site traffic. In other news, ebrary has announced
that it has signed agreements with 12 university presses, Springer-Verlag,
DSI Publishing Group, and Learning Network.
ebrarian
According to the announcement, ebrarian lets publishers, Internet portals,
academic institutions, libraries, e-learning companies, large corporations,
and other organizations provide high-value, focused content to attract
and retain customers, increase sales, and make their Web site properties
more valuable to advertisers. ebrary's channel partner strategy also operates
additional channels to help increase online access and sales.
Channel partners can target specific markets by making their own content
securely available online, by accessing relevant content from ebrary's
collection, or by combining content from both. Partners can also determine
what payment models are appropriate to their businesses. ebrarian supports
a customizable business model that allows publishers and channel partners
to specify how much content can be viewed or purchased, as well as the
price of acquiring content.
ebrarian is powered by ebrary InfoTools, which provides exploration
and comprehension capabilities. Users can interact with content down to
the word level to obtain definitions, translations, biographical information,
maps, and more; navigate through the content; and access additional materials
available on the Web via an intuitive interface. ebrarian also uses Adobe
PDF technology to present content true to the original design of the printed
document.
In addition, ebrarian's real-time activity reports on document viewing,
usage, micro-transactions, and purchases provide data for channel partners
to make informed buying and marketing decisions while protecting user privacy.
ebrarian is available now to channel partners in the U.S. and U.K. Pricing
will vary according to organizations' individual requirements, including
customization and hosting services.
University Presses
ebrary has signed content-distribution agreements with 12 university
presses. These new content providers are MIT Press, University of California
Press, Stanford University Press, Columbia University Press, University
of Texas Press, University of North Carolina Press, University of Nebraska
Press, University of Hawaii Press, University of Wisconsin Press, Marquette
University Press, Purdue University Press, and University of Utah Press.
Under terms of the agreements, the university presses will provide ebrary
with thousands of titles ranging from business and finance to anthropology
and zoology. Many of these works will be available to ebrary's online channel
partners as part of ebrarian and will also be available on the ebrary.com
site.
Springer-Verlag
ebrary's partnership with scientific publisher Springer-Verlag will
provide it with collections of authoritative mathematics and statistics
titles that will be available to channel partners via ebrarian as well
as the ebrary.com site. According to the announcement, the relationship
enables Springer-Verlag to securely and efficiently tap new online markets
and benefit researchers, professionals, students, and other Internet users
worldwide.
DSI Publishing Group
DSI Publishing Group, a division of Digital Scanning, Inc., a provider
of conversion and scanning services, will make its collection of Early-American
history reproductions available online through ebrary.com.
"Not only does ebrary enable us to share our valuable collection with
a wide audience of Internet users, it also gives us competitive advantage,"
said Kate Crane, vice president of DSI Publishing Group. "By distributing
our historical documents through ebrary, we achieve new revenue opportunities
and greater exposure on the Web. We're extremely excited to be a part of
ebrary.com and look forward to working with the company as we continue
to grow our collection."
Learning Network
Learning Network, a consumer-education source, will use ebrarian for
channel partners. With ebrarian, Learning Network will enable its community
of students, professionals, and lifelong learners to find and access the
authoritative, educational information they need on the Internet, according
to the announcement.
Learning Network will leverage ebrarian to securely distribute its own
authoritative educational and reference content online via its network
of Web sites. Additionally, the company will provide its users with access
to ebrary's online collections of copyright-protected books, periodicals,
journals, and more.
