EDITOR'S NOTE
Authors Who Rock
by Brandi Scardilli
At a conference years ago, a publisher (Sourcebooks, I think) was giving away T-shirts that said, “Authors are my rock stars.” The sentiment rings true to me, because encounters with authors have been some of my favorite memories. I got to thank The Baby-Sitters Club’s Ann M. Martin for getting me through being bullied in middle school. (I cried, and she didn’t seem to mind.) I got to tell Carmen Agra Deedy how much Tree Man has meant to my family. (I cried, and she hugged me.) I won’t bore you with the rest of my stories, but suffice it to say, yes, authors are my rock stars.
I know I’m not the only one who feels that way. Stephen King is beloved by millions, and Anthony Aycock is a superfan. This issue, he tells the tale of his trek to see King in the flesh and then shares the best King-related resources on the web (page 14). Note that Anthony wrote “Lord Give Me a Sign(ing): Do’s and Don’ts When Meeting Authors” (infotoday.com/it/jul18/Aycock--Dos-and-Donts-When-Meeting-Authors.shtml), which will be helpful if you’re planning your own trip to meet an author you admire.
Also in this issue, you’ll find celebrations of National Library Week in We the People (page 6) and in a feature by Patti Gibbons (page 17). As for AI, After Hours (page 8) takes a look at Google’s AI Test Kitchen, and Database Review (page 24) examines Claude. Happy reading,
