ITI to Distribute Titles Through netLibrary netLibrary has announced that a number of high-demand Information Today,
Inc. (ITI) books will be available as e-books through its service.
"netLibrary serves a community of librarians and online users that fits extremely
well with the intended audience of our book program. We are very excited about
our titles now being available as e-books and are looking forward to building
a strong relationship with netLibrary," said Tom Hogan Jr., ITI's marketing
director.
Titles include Building & Running a Successful Research Business, Super
Searchers Cover the World: The Online Secrets of International Business Researchers,
and Assessing Competitive Intelligence Software.

EBSCO Publishing Announces New Releases EBSCO Publishing announced that its NoveList Group, in association with Baker & Taylor,
has released Book Index with Reviews (BIR), a new Web resource for libraries.
The company also announced that the Columbia Granger's Poetry Database is now
available through EBSCOhost.
Book Index with Reviews
According to the announcement, BIR offers an intuitive interface that delivers
the same searching power as the EBSCOhost search engine. This searching
power allows users to mine the content of more than 800,000 fully searchable,
full-text reviews as well as information on nearly 4 million book titles, powered
by The Title Source from Baker & Taylor.
BIR also lets library staff and readers consult reviews to learn about a
specific book. Its file of fully searchable reviews from sources such as Booklist, Library
Journal, Kirkus Reviews, and many others allows readers to find
books that address their needs and interests.
Columbia Granger's Poetry Database
First published in 1904, Columbia Granger's Poetry Database contains works
of poetry found in anthologies, volumes of collected works, and selected works
for individual poets. More than 400,000 poem citations and more than 50,000
full-text poems are included in the database. Also included is bibliographic
information for more than 1,800 anthologies, more than 1,100 commentaries,
and approximately 500 comprehensive biographies.

Dialog Launches DialogPRO NewsEdge Dialog announced the release of DialogPRO NewsEdge, a service designed for
small-business owners and managers.
The DialogPRO NewsEdge news-alerting tool is available for subscription at
fixed monthly fees. It delivers real-time news provided by top sources and
offers access to archives of previously reported news stories and research.
The service also features options to access Editors' Picks and Editors' Updates,
daily news briefings that are managed by Dialog editors who specialize in individual
industry sectors.
Subscribers can set up customized information profiles to receive only those
news reports that are focused on their industries, competitors, and related
topics relevant to their businesses. As new content is added to Dialog, news
reports are processed through the profiles. Matching news reports and research
can then be delivered via e-mail during the business day or accessed and viewed
online at any time.

West Announces New Additions West announced the release of West Document Retrieval, a service that obtains
hard-to-locate federal, state, local government, and public-domain documents.
The company also announced the addition of references to Westlaw's ResultsPlus
research-assistance feature.
West Document Retrieval
According to the announcement, West Document Retrieval, formerly known as
FDR Research, has been a leader in the document research and retrieval industry
for more than 25 years. The business was transitioned to West from Thomson
Financial on Jan. 1.
West Document Retrieval obtains the documents through its network of staff
and independent agents. Requests are initiated within 24 to 48 hours, with
rush service also available. Document areas in which the company specializes
include civil and criminal litigation, bankruptcy, public records, corporate/UCC
(Uniform Commercial Code), energy, financial services, insurance, intellectual
property, labor, and legislative.

ResultsPlus points Westlaw users to related information sources when doing
a case law search and suggests West key number queries to further refine their
search.

Library of Congress Completes Historical Archiving Project, Implements OpenURL
The Library of Congress announced that it has made its collection of Thomas
Jefferson papers available online at the American Memory Web site (http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/mtjhtml).
The library also announced that the Handbook of Latin American Studies (HLAS)
Online is the first of its databases to use the OpenURL protocol.

The online Jefferson papers now total more than 27,000 items, including correspondence,
memorandums, notes, commonplace books, financial account books, and manuscript
volumes.
"The conclusion of this project marks an important milestone for the library
and its American Memory program, which makes more than 8.5 million important
historical items freely available online to all Americans," said Librarian
of Congress James H. Billington. "Now, all the materials in the library's collections
from three of our most studied presidentsWashington, Lincoln, as well
as Jeffersoncan be accessed online."
OpenURL Implementation
Institutions with a local link resolver can now link directly from HLAS Online
records to the Web resources of their choice. This project is the result of
collaborative efforts between the Library of Congress and the Princeton University
Library.
Updated weekly, HLAS Online contains more than 300,000 bibliographic citations,
annotations, and bibliographic essays on works published from 1935 to the present.
OpenURL links are available for MARC 21 bibliographic records from Volume 50
(1990) forward.

ITI Unveils New Edition of AV Market Place
Information Today, Inc. (ITI) announced the release of AV Market Place
2004 (AVMP), a business directory of products and services for
the audiovisual industry.
The new edition is completely revised and updated for 2004, with 8,500 listings. AVMP includes
information on video, multimedia, virtual reality, computer graphics, digital
audio, and presentation software.
AVMP offers search options to guide users through the more than 1,250
product and service categories. The Company Directory offers full details on
more than 7,000 companies, and the Geographic Index lists a product, service,
or company by location.

Mystik Media Releases ContextConvert Pro 2.0
Mystik Media has announced the release of ContextConvert Pro 2.0, a Windows
application for converting among all major multimedia formats.
Tightly integrated with the Windows interface, ContextConvert Pro provides
immediate conversion capability from any Windows context (right-click) menu.
Simply right-click on any music, image, or video file, and you can immediately
convert it to any other multimedia format.
The application allows you to pre-define the folder that will contain your
converted files. It also offers settings and properties that are available
for complete output control, including audio frequency, bit rate, and channels;
AVI codecs; MPEG types; WMV profile; image quality; and image color depth.
ContextConvert Pro provides multipage image-conversion support. You can convert
from one multipage format to another, extract multipage images and create a
set of individual pages, grab the first page only of a multipage file, or build
a new multipage file from selected images.

EBSCO Announces New Implementations
EBSCO Information Services announced that it now offers a French-language
version of the EBSCOhost Electronic Journals Service (EJS) administrative
site. In addition, the company's Corporate Services announced that it has added
streamlined e-procurement procedures for SAP Enterprise Buyer Professional
through RoundTrip open catalog interface technology.

EBSCOhost Electronic Journals Service handles electronic journal access
and management needs. EJS Enhanced offers features that help with e-journal
management tasks such as tracking the registration status of e-journals, authentication
access to facilitate both on-campus and remote access to e-journal content,
and automatic management of e-journal URLs.
RoundTrip
With RoundTrip, customers are routed directly to the EBSCO Corporate Services
Web site. After products are selected for purchase, RoundTrip sends the required
item details back to the shopping cart. The shopping cart items are directly
routed through the buyer's requisition and approval process before the order
is converted to a purchase order and sent to the EBSCO Corporate Service Center
for processing.

Cuadra Introduces Enhanced Version of STAR
Cuadra Associates, Inc., a provider of information management software products,
has released a new version of its STAR software. The new 3.9 release provides
a number of major enhancements to its core technology, Windows-based client
interface, and browser-based system management interface.
According to the announcement, STAR allows proper handling of descriptive
or full-text information and fast, precise retrieval of information tasks vital
to any organization that has multiple, related information management needs.
STAR includes customizing capabilities to create unique applications and can
be integrated with portals and other software packages along with dynamic Web
publishing.
Encrypted communications, a new enhancement to the core technology, allows
users of STAR's Windows-based client, as well as the company's ASP service,
to communicate safely and securely over the Internet from multiple locations.

CAS, CSA Reach Agreement to Provide
Additional Databases on STN International
Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) and CSA announced that they have agreed
to add eight CSA databases to the STN International online network this year.
STN is operated by CAS in North America, FIZ Karlsruhe in Europe, and JST in
Japan. The CSA databases that will soon join STN cover biotechnology, engineering
specialties, earth and environmental studies, and library and information science.
"We welcome the opportunity to provide STN users worldwide access to additional
CSA databases. With the 19 CSA files already on STN, this new offering will
make STN an even more robust sci-tech information resource," said Suzan A.
Brown, CAS's vice president of marketing and sales. "It is through the cooperation
of respected scientific organizations such as CSA that STN has been able to
serve the diverse needs of the scientific and technical community for 20 years."

Convera Introduces New Taxonomies
Convera, a provider of search and categorization software, announced the
introduction of five new industry-specific taxonomies: Genetics, Finance & Business,
General Enterprise, Technology, and U.S. Government.
The new taxonomies contain industry-standard thesaurus content enhanced by
Convera linguists and taxonomists to optimize the quality of information discovery
in government and commercial applications. According to the announcement, each
of the taxonomies speeds the process of organizing an enterprise's knowledge

H.W. Wilson Unveils New Database, Sourcebook
H.W. Wilson announced the release of the Humanities & Social Sciences
Index Retrospective 1907-1984 and the publication of Leaders of the Information
Age.
New Database
Humanities & Social Sciences Index Retrospective 1907-1984 features cover-to-cover
indexing of articles from some 1,200 periodicals, encompassing 20th-century
scholarly journals from the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Information from 46 print
volumes that would otherwise require some 12 feet of shelf space are now searchable
on the Web. Data for this new resource comes from decades of print annuals
from Wilson's Social Sciences & Humanities Index, Social Sciences Index,
Humanities Index, and International Index.
Leaders of the Information Age
The lives and work of 250 Information Age pioneers are highlighted in this
new biography reference. According to the announcement, this sourcebook includes
historical figures who set the foundation of today's revolution, modern giants
of the computer industry, geneticists, inventors, physicists, philosophers,
and futurists. The volume is edited by David Weil, curator and executive director
of the Computer Museum of America.

Sirsi Releases Digital Heritage Room
Sirsi Corp. announced the release of Sirsi Digital Heritage Room, a product
that will allow libraries to preserve images, documents, and more while making
these materials more accessible to present and future generations of library
users.
Digital Heritage Room comes standard with a single CollectionPak, which covers
the digitization and presentation of a set number of images or documents from
the library. Sirsi will scan and bulk-load the images and associated metadata
that make up the CollectionPak. As the library continues to develop its digital
collections, additional CollectionPaks can be purchased. All metadata is 100-percent
searchable, so patrons can select and view content such as documents, newspapers,
journals, diaries, and photographs.
According to the announcement, Sirsi Digital Heritage Room includes everything
needed to bring special collections online, such as server software (including
installation and configuration), scanning of materials by a scanning service
bureau, and bulk-loading of images and metadata. The product can also store
and retrieve multimedia formats like WAV, MOV, QuickTime, MPEG, RealAudio,
RealVideo, and AVI. Additionally, the product can connect users to streaming
content.

Elsevier Ei Launches New Platform
Elsevier Engineering Information (Ei) has released the next generation of
Paper Village 2, a Web-based discovery platform for pulp and paper professionals.
Paper Village 2 provides search access to published literature, conference
proceedings, and information sources in the pulp and paper industry.
According to the announcement, the new release upgrades the underlying technology
while expanding available content sources to improve the research process.
The FAST search engine and search tools have been implemented to deliver standard-bearing
search speed and functionality. In addition, the latest version has been expanded
to complement PaperChem, a bibliographic database that covers the paper industry.
Additional content sources provide access to technical information, specifications,
service sites, and industry news.
