Katherine Makens, Resources and Finance Officer, Durham County Libraries
Katherine Makens

I am currently the Resources and Finance Officer with Durham County Libraries. I supervise Library IT, Technical Services, the North Carolina Collection archive, and am over the library system’s budget. I have worked in public, academic, and special libraries over the past 15 years, 12 as a librarian. Some of my other positions have included Head of Adult Services, Electronic Information Services Librarian, Young Adult Services Librarian, and Legal Specialist Librarian. I especially like working with underserved audiences, gaming, and emerging technology. My specialties have included small business, legal reference, government documents, patents and trademarks, statistics, information literacy, gaming in libraries, working with low literacy populations, and training staff. I have an MLIS from the University of Pittsburgh and a BA in Comparative Literature from Oberlin College.
